  • 1 Each Homemade or Store-Bought Pie Crust
  • 1 Cup Semi-sweet Chocolate Chips divided
  • ¾ Cup Light Corn Syrup
  • ½ Cup Light Brown Sugar packed
  • ¼ Cup Granulated Sugar
  • 3 Tablespoons All Purpose Flour
  • 3 Each Large Eggs
  • 2 Tablespoons Unsalted Butter melted
  • 1 Tablespoon Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • ½ teaspoon Salt
  • 2 Cups Chopped Pecans

Instructions

  • Prepare your chosen pie crust. If using a homemade recipe, ensure it’s well-chilled. If store-bought, keep it refrigerated until ready to roll out and place in the pie dish.

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Position an oven rack in the lower-middle part of the oven.
  • In a large, microwave-safe mixing bowl, melt half of the semi-sweet chocolate chips. Heat in 10-second bursts, stirring vigorously after each, until smooth and mostly melted. Avoid overheating.
    ½ Cup Semi-sweet Chocolate Chips (for melting)
  • Allow the melted chocolate to cool slightly (just a minute or two). Then, add the large eggs, all-purpose flour, melted unsalted butter, light brown sugar, granulated sugar, salt, light corn syrup, unsweetened cocoa powder, and vanilla extract to the bowl. Whisk thoroughly until all ingredients are well combined and the mixture is smooth.
    ¾ Cup Light Corn Syrup, ½ Cup Light Brown Sugar, ¼ Cup Granulated Sugar, 3 Tablespoons All Purpose Flour, 3 Each Large Eggs, 2 Tablespoons Unsalted Butter, 1 Tablespoon Unsweetened Cocoa Powder, 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract, ½ teaspoon Salt
  • Carefully press your pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish and flute the edges decoratively. Distribute the 2 cups of chopped pecans evenly across the bottom of the crust, then sprinkle the remaining ½ cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips over the pecans.

  • Gently pour the prepared chocolate filling mixture over the pecan and chocolate chip base in the pie crust, spreading it evenly with a spatula if needed.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes. The pie is ready when the edges are set, and the center still has a slight jiggle (like thick gelatin, not liquid) when gently nudged. If the crust edges start to brown too quickly, you can cover them with aluminum foil.
  • Remove the pie from the oven and place it on a wire rack to cool completely. This is a crucial step; allow it to cool for at least 3-4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the filling to fully set for clean slices.

Notes for Best Results

It’s paramount to work swiftly with your pie crust, especially if it’s homemade and well-chilled. Don’t let it sit out at room temperature for too long before baking, as a warm crust is prone to wilting or shrinking during the initial baking phase, leading to a less desirable texture.
